Layered Technologies To Enter Utility Storage Market

Frisco, TX | May 17, 2007: Layered Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of next generation, self-managed, utility computing and dedicated hosting solutions has launched StrongBox, a new utility storage offering. StrongBox stores and serves large volumes of various content types in a highly available and scalable environment.

"StrongBox provides users a private environment to upload, store and serve static content," said Jeremy Suo-Anttila, CTO, Layered Technologies, Inc. "Unlike competing services that require custom code or API access, StrongBox can be remotely mounted on client systems, allowing it to appear on the local computer or server. You can literally drag and drop files into Strongbox from your desktop. Plus, you can set up the service with as little as 10 GB of data and then can scale to huge amounts of content, up to 8 TeraBytes almost at will."

StrongBox greatly simplifies operations of online services by allowing to both store data and serve it using the built in services and protocols. For example,a music service can store thousand of album cover and concert images and serve them directly from StrongBox, avoiding the cost and complexity of scaling their website. This not only reduces the cost of storing the collection but lets them focus on the user experience instead of scaling their web site. Strongbox also provides an excellent solution for online backup, use with blogs, forums or other Web 2.0 applications.

StrongBox is powered by 3tera's AppLogic utility computing environment and is accessed via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) server endpoint, creating an encrypted tunnel between StrongBox and your computer or remote server(s). All files uploaded can also be placed in the public or private web shares or held in a private non web accessible location. The system also allows you to use rsync, rdiff-backup, rdist, ftp, sftp, scp, Windows File sharing, NFS, Web Based File Manager and more. Strongbox also allows you to both Push and Pull data from remote hosts. With additional scripting users can enable Strongbox to pull data in with rsync, rdiff-back, WGET, Perl-LWP or similar scripts.

The Grid Layer will be accepting 25 x 10GB Perspective beta users. Sign up for Strongbox by emailing enterprisesales@layeredtech.com or calling at 469-252-3490. Preference will be given to users from the shared web hosting, Web 2.0 and Enterprise communities.
