Layered Tech to be Represented on Panel Judging Inaugural E-Pay Innovation Award

April 30, 2013

Plano, Texas – Layered Tech regional sales manager Steve Chu will be among the judges selecting the winner of the inaugural E-Pay Innovation Award at the Electronic Transactions Association (ETA) Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans from April 30 to May 2. Funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the $10,000 prize will go to the conference exhibitor whose innovative electronic payments technology or product has the greatest potential to expand access to digital financial services for underserved communities around the globe.

Worldwide, more than 2.5 billion people in poor and rural communities lack a bank account or other basic financial services, relying instead on makeshift cash and barter systems that make it difficult for individuals to rise out of poverty. The Gates Foundation seeks to leverage advances in mobile communications and electronic payments technology in order to provide poor communities with greater access to digitally-based financial tools and services. As part of this strategy, the Foundation supports technology and service innovations that hold particular promise for helping underserved communities.

Along with the E-Pay Innovation Award, the Gates Foundation is helping to fund a new area of the ETA Conference called the Payments Next Zone, which will showcase companies looking to launch new electronic payment products or services. All Payments Next Zone exhibitors are eligible for the E-Pay Innovation Award. Exhibitors competing for the award must demonstrate their technology live at the conference, as a prototype or software mockup. The judging panel will include Megan Oxman from the Gates Foundation as well as Layered Tech’s Chu and other ETA and industry leaders.

“I am very excited to serve on the ETA Technology Committee which is partnering with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support the Payments Next Zone,” said Chu. “We are focused on identifying startup companies that are providing a global solution that will become readily available for the unserved and underserved market segments. We have some great candidates lined up and I can’t wait to see their presentations.”

Layered Tech will also exhibit at the ETA Conference, informing conference-goers about its PCI-compliant managed hosting and cloud services. Across its global network of data centers, Layered Tech helps electronic payment innovators by providing them a ready-made infrastructure in which to run secure, compliant, scalable e-payment systems and services.

The Electronic Transactions Association Annual Conference & Expo will be held at the New Orleans Convention Center from April 30 to May 2. Layered Tech will exhibit at booth number 950. For more information about the 2013 ETA Annual Conference & Expo, visit http://www.electran.org/am13.
