We do allow legal adult content on our websites (18+). All content on a LayeredTech server must follow our AUP and must follow all applicable US laws. LayeredTech may, at any time, at its sole discretion, require the customer to provide legal documentation fulfilling the requirements of 18 U.S.C. 2257 for their review. Any customer found to be in non-compliance with 18 U.S.C. 2257 or any other applicable law may have their account suspended or revoked at our sole discretion
Back to topDo you install the Operating System, applications, and software?
We offer 100% self-managed servers. Before a server is deployed, we install the OS and a Control Panel (if selected). All additional software, firewall, etc. is the responsibility of the customer. On base *nix installs, we do not automatically install MySQL. We do install PHP and Apache on all of our *nix installs, except FreeBSD machines. Also, PHP, Apache and MySQL are built into the Plesk control panel. However, they have to be 'turned on'. PHP, Apache, MySQL, Exim, etc. are also built into the cPanel control panel. If you would like these 'turned on', simply put this request in the Comments field of the online order form.

We offer basic technical support 24/7, 365 days a year. We have engineers and techs physically at our Data Center around the clock. Basic support includes installation of the Operating System and Control Panel, if you choose one. Our servers are 100% self-managed - in other words, fully managed by you or your server admin.
Our Support Department is here to help assist you in matters that require hands on support or have to deal with issues directly related to the network, power, bandwidth, hardware of the server, reboots and some OS issues. Additional support, or level 2 and above, costs $75/hr.
If you do not think that you can manage a LayeredTech server fully on your own, please contact the Sales Department and they will assist you in finding a reputable management company.

LayeredTech does not have any type of contract, exclusive or otherwise. We simply require a 7 day notice to cancel any server.
Back to topHow long does it take to get my server after I place the order?
All of our servers are provisioned, installed and setup in 24-72 hours (estimated) from the time that we confirm payment. The majority of our servers are deployed within this time frame, although depending on the configuration of the server and the current work load, the deployment may take a little longer.
Back to topHow do I ask for custom partitions?
You can request custom partitions in the Comments field of the online order form. We use what the OS install CD uses for the auto-partitioning, unless it is FreeBSD, for which we have our own setup.
Back to topDo you setup the DNS? Reverse DNS?
The customer is responsible for setting up the DNS on their server. We can provide the RDNS (Reverse DNS) for you, as we do this for 95% of our customers. Be aware that the LayeredTech name will remain in the trace route. Once the server is deployed, a customer can simply send in a ticket to the Support Department requesting the RDNS be set up.
Back to topOut of the 8 IPs that come with a server, why are only 5 of them 'usable'? Can I order additional IPs and if so, how much?
We provide you with 8 IPs for each server - 5 are usable, 3 are used to set up your Private VLAN.
We sell IPs in blocks of 8 at $1 per IP ($8 per block). To order IPs, you must have a minimum of 80% justification for those additional IPs (required by ARIN). Additional IPs can be ordered after your server is deployed.
Back to topDoes LayeredTech allow IRC or P2P applications on the network?
No. Please read our AUP / TOS for more details. All IRC is strictly forbidden on our network. Any host found running either a IRC client or server will face suspension and possible cancellation of services. Please do not run IRC on any of the Layered Technologies networks.
Back to topDo you have discounts for pre-payment?
We provide discounts for pre-payment as follows:
3 months = 5% Discount
6 months = 10% Discount
9 months = 15% Discount
12 months = 20% Discount
IMPORTANT NOTE: If a customer pre-pays for a server, but cancels before the term of the pre-payment ends, there will not be a refund for the remaining "unused" time. The monthly fee is reduced based only on the fact that the customer is pre-paying for the server, and we trust that they will keep the server until at minimum, the end of the pre-payment term. Hence, if someone pays for 12 months and receives a 15% discount, which is significant, but cancels after 6 months, we will not refund the equivalent of the remaining 6 months.
If you would like to pre-pay for a server, in the Comments field of the online order form, simply state the length of time that you will pre-pay for and we will send you the invoice for that amount of time. Please realize that after for the next invoice (say, after a 3 month pre-payment), the next invoice will go out for the same pre-payment term. If you would like to change it, simply contact the Accounts Dept (accounts@layeredtech.com) before the next invoice is generated and sent to you, and let them know that you would like to change it to 'month to month.'

All reboots are done manually by our techs, and we do have techs physically at the Data Centers 24/7. Reboot tickets are of the highest importance... If you need a reboot, you must put in a ticket to "Reboot Requests" at https://support.layeredtech.com/home/index.php?x=&mod_id=4.
Reboot tickets have the upmost priority; estimated time for completion is 5-45 minutes, but they are usually taken care of w/in 5-10 minutes. We are currently working on remote reboot capability and it should be ready in the near future.

Due to ARIN rules we are unable to change that information shown. We do provide 'RWHOIS' information for all our clients to meet the ARIN guidelines and we will provide 'SWIP' changes to ARIN if a client has /25 (128 continuous IP's) or more. Even then it will still show LayeredTech at the top of the list and the IP's then delegated to you. The ONLY way around this is to purchase your own IP space from ARIN or other local registar.

NO. All hosts are pre-loaded with a configuration that many users find to work great for all types of hosting platforms. ANY changes to the OS will change the order to a 'Custom Order' and have a 72 hour turn around time.

Yes. Depending on the OS support for the control panel. This will delay the deployment time a few hours to allow for installation of the control panel software and licensing.

Back to topWhat is your policy on Bandwidth?
We do not limit your transfer rate for your dedicated server. Your dedicated server will have a 10mbps network connection unless otherwise stated (as in the 10mbps unmetered systems), or if you have selected to upgrade your port speed to 100Mbps. If you exceed your monthly transfer limit, you will be billed for any excess (except for the 10mbps and 100mbps unmetered systems). We do not throttle (limit) the bandwidth of any system that does not break our AUP/TOS.

Bandwidth usage is measured from samples taken at the switch. You can monitor and check your bandwidth usage by logging into service area of our site. Once there, choose the bandwidth monitor for the specific server in question to see how much bandwidth you are using. The total transfer listed is the actual transfer your server has done, both in and out.

Many providers only offer a few server package options with very limited OS choices only - we offer many server packages and allow you to configure each server as you wish by adding HDs or RAM, upgrading them, upgrading the uplink port, choosing from a minimum of 10-15 OS choices available, etc...You can also order Rapid Deploy servers off of our website which are always deployed within 24 hours - most are deployed in 12 hours from payment confirmation.
In addition, you can reach the Accounts/Billing and the Sales Dept during regular business hours on Mon-Fri by phone to ask any additional questions that you might have. We also offer discounts for pre-payment and for our valued resellers - reseller discounts begin with your second server purchased, and being a reseller allows you access to our reseller-only forums, where we post specials just for resellers with prices that are often over 25% off retail!

Regarding our main Data Center: The Savvis IDC is a TIER 1 DC. It is fully redundant in all aspects when it comes to power, HVAC, bandwidth and more.
